Opinions will always be split on the best iteration of Final Fantasy, and so it's interesting to hear that living industry legend and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has shared his own thoughts on the franchise. Once upon a time, Dragon Quest was in direct competition with Final Fantasy; the two properties vying for the RPG crown back in the 80s and 90s. Of course, this was before Square and Enix merged to form Square Enix, causing the two titans of the genre to fall under the same publishing um

As the gaming industry braces for the colossus that is Grand Theft Auto VI, a former Call of Duty executive has issued a stark warning: the upcoming title may not just dominate the charts—it could completely drain the life out of current free-to-play giants. Greg Reisdorf, the former Creative Director at Sledgehammer Games who led development on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s multiplayer, believes the launch of GTA 6 represents an existential threat to mature-themed live-service games. Hiroshi Kubota, a former Sega staffer who worked as a sound programmer and composer, has passed away, we're sad to report. The news was broken by former colleague Koichi Namiki on social media and picked up by @allcityslopshop.com. According to Namiki, Kubota had been "battling illness for a long time." Kubota joined Sega in 1989, and, as documented by Sega Retro, one of his earliest ventures was the Mega Drive port of Sorcerian, for which he composed half of the new tracks with Tokuhiko Uwabo.

The Total War series has long been at the centre of all things strategic in gaming — but the franchise has always maintained a PC focus. That's going to change with future titles, however. During the property's 25th anniversary showcase, British developer Creative Assembly basically confirmed the new direction, stating that Total War's new engine — delightfully named the Warcore engine — should allow the studio to account for console releases going forward. "In a franchise first, [the Warcore en

Although Capcom has remained tightlipped on the prospect of Leon Kennedy cropping up in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, a good number of fans are adamant that the veteran character will indeed appear. However, a new listing over on GameStop drops some new information regarding the Deluxe Edition of the game which, if accurate, seems to hint at a completely different playable character: Rosemary Winters (thanks, IGN). Rose Winters is, if you remember, the protagonist in the Shadows of Rose DL

GTA 6 pre-orders opened to enormous fanfare last Thursday, June 25, with online estimates suggesting millions of players have already put down $70-$100 for the most expensive game ever made. As first noticed by Polygon, GameStop staff have taken to Reddit to share just how badly in-store pre

This one may be of particular interest to PlayStation fans, as the leading feature in the new issue hones in on Astro Bot. A big interview with Nicolas Doucet is the main attraction,

Ghost of Yotei's latest update — patch 1.1 — has resulted in some pretty significant performance boosts. Analysed by our friends over at Digital Foundry, the update's introduction of VRR support is a win for all players, but it's an especially big deal on PS5 Pro. Just to recap, version 1.1 was headlined by the addition of New Game+ when it launched last week, but developer Sucker Punch also snuck in some juicy new graphical settings. A new 'Balanced' mode targets 40 frames-per-second, but reall

It sounds impossible, but Grand Theft Auto V—a game notorious for its massive storage footprint of over 100GB—has been successfully compressed to less than 2.5GB. This staggering 98% reduction isn’t an official patch from Rockstar Games, but rather an extreme optimization project by modder @OptiJogos, designed to bring the open-world giant to hardware that has no business running it. The "Ultra-Lite" Treatment To achieve a file size smaller than most mobile games, @OptiJogos had to take a scalpe
