We have been keeping an eye on Mina the Hollower for some years now. This is the GBC-looking Zelda-like from Yacht Club Games, the studio behind Shovel Knight, that launched on Kickstarter back in 2022, and only recently missed out on its initial release date thanks to a last-minute delay. It feels like it has been a long time coming, a fact that Yacht Club is reportedly painfully aware of. In a new report from Bloomberg (paywalled), studio founder Sean Velasco described Mina as "make-or-break"

The fact that the Pokémon Trading Card Game has created its own mini-economy isn't new news – back when it launched in the late '90s, there were accusations that it was encouraging gambling amongst kids, with many schools banning the cards from their playgrounds. In more recent years, however, the market for collectable cards has risen to hitherto unseen levels of insanity, driven by the fact that the children who grew up with Pokémon in the '90s and 2000s are now adults and can invest heavily i

If you can believe it, we are very, very nearly at the official launch of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It's a cross-generation release, but we always knew that this was going to be a big player for the Switch 2, making the most of the new hardware's beefed-up specs to squeeze the most out of the space adventure. The question is, how does it hold up? Our good friends over at Digital Foundry are here to answer just that. In the above video, the tech experts break down everything you need to know about

Nintendo 64 decompilation projects have gained a lot of traction, and with tools like N64 Recomp available to the public, the process of creating a PC port and binary executable for any given Nintendo 64 decompilation project became easier thanks to it. While some games have proper PC ports yet to be made from scratch, other have seen the implementation of the Recompilation tool in order to be able to compile and create a running executable of the decompiled N64 game working in their computers,

Without any previous notice and out of nowhere, an Xbox Series version of the Silent Hill 2 Remake has appeared online through the official Microsoft Xbox Store in various regions. Decompilation projects not only open the doors for older and beloved video games to be ported natively to PC, but they also open the doors for those same decompiled games to be ported to other consoles, with developers tackling the special hardware of the specific target console and finding workarounds to bring the decompiled game's coding quirks to the new console's hardware. Such was the case for the debut and most iconic Nintendo 64 video game, Super Mario 64, and thanks to the initial and c

Final Fantasy arguably has the edge over Dragon Quest when it comes to global fame, so much so that it's easy to forget that Yuji Horii's series came out before Hironobu Sakaguchi's. The early rivalry between the two franchises was quite heated in Japan, but, as Horii tells Game Informer, he never saw Final Fantasy as "competition," even if it was on his radar as a designer. He adds: Despite this difference, Horii reveals he's a fan of the series – and even lists his personal favourite in the li

The launch of the GF1 Neptune – a FPGA recreation of the Genesis / Mega Drive and 32X combo that never actually hit store shelves – has been delayed. GamesCare, the Brazilian company behind the project, has stated that the delay will enable it to "ensure that both the software and the cores provide a stable and high-quality experience." Here's the PR from GamesCare: Sega originally announced the Neptune project back in the mid-'90s, just as it was preparing to release the 32X and Saturn. Neptune

Mario Kart: Super Circuit is one of the games I remember most fondly when thinking about the Game Boy Advance. The console was still fresh and new back in 2001, and soon after launch it was playing host to a portable version of one of my favourite SNES games of all time. It felt too good to be true. I still enjoy Super Circuit, even after almost a quarter of a century, so it amazes me now to hear that the game has been "fixed" by fans to make it even better. As reported by Video Game Esoterica,

Think every little secret about Street Fighter II has been discovered? Well, you'd be wrong, as a new debug menu has been found in the 'Turbo' version of the game. TurboAnnihilate is the one who made the discovery, unearthing a debug menu for sprite scaling and rotation. To access this menu, TurboAnnihilate says: This begs the question – were there ever any plans to add sprite scaling to the game? This effect is seen in titles like Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury, so it would be interesting to kn

We have some exciting news for N64 fans. Another build of Sammy Corporation and Racdym's cancelled Star Fox-style shoot 'em up Viewpoint 2064 has been dumped and preserved online. This time by the YouTuber and video game preservationist Hard4Games. Viewpoint 2064, as the name indicates, was a 3D follow-up to the Neo Geo top-down isometric shooter from Aicom and Sammy, which was also subsequently ported to the Sega Genesis, FM Towns, Sharp X68000, Sony PlayStation, and Windows computers. Earlier this year, those paying attention will have likely seen an unusual game cropping up on social media, all about digging a hole and seemingly nothing more. Well, that game is A Game About Digging a Hole, and after its huge success on PC, it's now coming to consoles. The viral hit indie title is tunnelling through to PS5 on 9th December 2025: The game is very much a what-it-says-on-the-tin situation; it's all about digging a hole in pursuit of unearthing treasures in the ground outside your

The original Resident Evil game from 1996 caused quite the stir in the gaming sphere, with the term "Survival Horror" being cemented when it dropped for the original PlayStation, with other titles like Silent Hill really delving into other aspects of what horror games could be. Since then, the game got plenty of ports to other consoles, not as many as Resident Evil 2, and much less than the original Resident Evil 4 of course, but it still got plenty, like a port to the Sega Saturn and one by So

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is now available on PS5 after one year of Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusivity, and much like that original launch, the hardcore title comes with a long list of technical faults on PS5. We have had access to the open world game for a few weeks now for review purposes, but have encountered numerous bugs, glitches, and performance issues during that time. A day one patch has been promised to fix many of those flaws, and now the game is out, so too is update 1.7. Based on our experie

It has been eight years since Nintendo first announced Metroid Prime 4. It has been 18 years since the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. And now, after all that time, Beyond's launch trailer is finally here. Those who have kept up with every trailer drop until now won't find too much new footage in this one, but we challenge anyone who's been waiting for the best part of a decade to watch without feeling a little tingle down their spine. The whole thing is a bit more story-based than we've

Earlier this week saw the announcement of Postal: Bullet Paradise, a Vampire Survivors-esque "bullet heaven" title based on the longstanding shooter franchise. However, before you get too excited, know that the PS5/PS4 game has been cancelled — just two days following its official announcement. This is because the game saw an "overwhelmingly negative" response from the community, all revolving around accusations of heavy generative AI usage. For reference, here's the announce trailer: The video

When we reviewed the excellent Analogue 3D recently, one negative we picked up on was the fact that flash cart compatibility was inconsistent. Some Analogue 3D owners have reported that older flash carts work fine, while others have said that more recent examples, like the EverDrive X5 and X7, do not. From my testing, my X7 certainly didn't work with the FPGA console. Thankfully, EverDrive creator Krikzz has released a new firmware – OS-V3.09 – for X5 and X7, which solves this issue (thanks, ReC

Analogue's amazing FPGA-based N64 clone, the Analogue 3D, will go back up for pre-order next week – but the price is getting a bump thanks to President Trump's infamous tariffs. The company announced on social media that a new batch of the systems will be available for order at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET on Monday, November 24th. The big catch is that the price is rising from $249.99 to $269.99, as the company has had to absorb the tariffs imposed by the US government on goods imported from abroad. Thes
