The hype train for Grand Theft Auto VI is officially picking up speed. Following the massive cover art reveal and pre-order information drop from Rockstar Games earlier this week, the studio has begun quietly updating its digital storefront assets—starting with Xbox.
For roughly a year, eager fans have been able to add GTA 6 to their wishlists on both Xbox and PlayStation digital storefronts. Until now, the placeholder image for the highly anticipated title was the familiar "Jason and Lucia 02" illustration. However, as preparations intensify for the game's pre-order launch on June 25th, that is finally beginning to change.
As spotted by GTA community member @RedDeadOutlaw99, the search result thumbnail for the game on the Xbox Store has been officially swapped out. Instead of the placeholder artwork, fans searching for the title are now greeted with the newly revealed, official GTA VI cover art. For many fans, seeing the final box art populate directly on their console UI makes the upcoming release feel more real than ever, with some initially brushing off the screenshots as fan-made fakes until verifying it on their own consoles.

Currently, this update appears to be rolling out in phases. The new cover art is visible to users browsing via the Xbox console store and the official Xbox website. However, the Xbox mobile app has not yet reflected the change, and users who have had the wishlist/placeholder file installed for the last year will notice it still sports the older artwork for the time being.
Alongside the thumbnail update, the Xbox website homepage is now actively advertising the game. A new Grand Theft Auto VI banner is currently being displayed, proudly announcing that pre-orders for the Xbox Series X|S will officially open next Thursday, June 25th.
Interestingly, at the time of writing, Sony's PlayStation Store remains unchanged and continues to use the older placeholder artwork. However, it is fully expected that PlayStation will mirror the Xbox update shortly as Rockstar ensures all digital storefronts are synchronized ahead of the pre-order rush.
With pre-orders just around the corner and official assets finally hitting console dashboards, the final countdown to our return to Vice City has truly begun.
