Pre-order stock of the physical edition of GTA 6 appears to be running low. Several retailers are listing the boxed version as unavailable, with the game's November 12 release about a month away.
Amazon and Target Show Shortages
The most notable case is Amazon in the US. As of Sunday, October 11, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions could not be pre-ordered. The listings say the item is currently unavailable, with no indication of when or whether it will return.
Target is showing similar signs. Pre-orders at many stores in heavily populated US areas have reportedly sold out. Some locations still list copies as "Ready on Nov 12," but availability varies by store. Los Angeles and New York City have little to no stock, with pickup listings reading "Preorders sold out."
It's possible some of these are listing errors rather than genuine stock depletion. Still, the pattern fits what Rockstar said in June, when the studio confirmed it had produced only limited quantities of this edition. Rockstar's own store also lists the boxed version as available "while supplies last."
Not a Traditional Disc
This edition isn't a conventional disc release. It is a boxed copy that contains a download code, which gives it the same digital delivery as a standard purchase but with a physical case on the shelf.
Whether more stock arrives for Amazon or other retailers is unclear. Other retailers may start listing the game as out of stock in the coming weeks as the launch approaches.
Why Fans Want the Boxed Version
There are practical reasons buyers prefer it:
Lower price: Retailers often discount physical editions below the standard digital price. Amazon UK, for example, lists the game at £65, roughly £5 less than most other sellers.
Collectability: Many fans want a physical copy on the shelf next to earlier GTA releases, and it doesn't cost extra.
Payment timing: Many retailers, Amazon included, don't charge until the order ships. The PlayStation Network takes payment at the time of pre-order, so digital buyers have been out $70 since June with nothing to play yet.
