Grand Theft Auto VI Aims to Deliver “Something Never Before Experienced,” Says Take-Two CEO

The hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI is already astronomical, but Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick is adding even more fuel to the fire. In a recent interview, Zelnick made it clear that Rockstar Games is not just aiming to release a new installment in the beloved franchise—they are aiming to redefine entertainment itself.

Speaking with Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier at the iicon event in Las Vegas last week, Zelnick opened up about the staggering expectations for the highly anticipated title. Overseeing the project from the business side, Zelnick shared that the shared ambition between Rockstar Games and Take-Two is to "deliver to consumers something that's never been experienced before."

However, trying to meet that unprecedented standard naturally comes with a heavy burden. According to Zelnick, trying to pull off this lofty goal is both "very exciting and terrifying, because the expectations are so high."

And those expectations are entirely justified. Based on the historic, record-shattering numbers generated by GTA VI’s debut trailer and corresponding social media announcements, the game is poised to take absolute ownership of the entertainment industry when it drops on November 19th. As Rockstar’s first new release in eight years, the industry consensus is that GTA VI is practically guaranteed to become the fastest-selling video game of all time.

An "Astonishing" Marketing Cycle and Addressing the $100 Rumors

Zelnick’s conversation with Schreier didn't stop at just the game's ambitious scope. The CEO also teased that the promotional machine for the game is about to kick into high gear. Zelnick promised an "astonishing" marketing cycle that will be beginning "soon," suggesting that the long drought of official information may be coming to an end as pre-orders prepare to open.

Furthermore, Zelnick addressed the elephant in the room: pricing. With ongoing rumors heavily circulating that GTA VI could carry a groundbreaking $100 price tag, Zelnick acknowledged the pricing concerns. While he didn't outright confirm or deny a specific price point, analysts suggest that regardless of the retail cost, the game is poised to shatter sales records in a way that may never be replicated.

What About PC?

While console players have November 19th circled on their calendars, the PC community remains in waiting. During the interview, Zelnick was pressed on the controversial decision to make GTA VI console-exclusive at launch. Taking the stance that core console customers must be "served first and best," the publisher appears to be sticking to Rockstar's historical release strategy of staggering PC ports after the initial console launch window.

As a bonus tidbit during the event, Zelnick also dropped a subtle hint regarding the future of another one of Rockstar’s beloved franchises, leaving fans to speculate whether a new Red Dead, Bully, or L.A. Noire title could eventually be on the horizon.

With pre-orders inching closer and a colossal marketing campaign on the horizon, it's clear that the road to Leonida is officially underway. If Strauss Zelnick and Rockstar Games can truly deliver "something never before experienced," November 19th won't just be a game release—it will be a cultural milestone.
