Achieving 100% completion in Red Dead Redemption 2 is a monumental task that requires you to complete requirements across all aspects of the game: story missions, side activities, collectibles, compendium discoveries, and miscellaneous tasks.

The reward for reaching 100% completion is the "Best in the West" achievement/trophy and a secret cutscene where John Marston visits Arthur Morgan's grave.

The in-game Total Completion menu (found under Pause Menu > Progress) is your official checklist. Here are the core requirements broken down into five main categories:

🤠 I. Missions and Events

You must complete all main story missions and a specific number of various side activities.

Crucial Note on Gold Medals: Gold Medals are NOT required for 100% completion. They are only needed for the separate "Gold Rush" trophy/achievement (which requires 70 Gold Medals).

🔎 II. Collectibles

You must complete the full questlines for all collectible Strangers and find all companion graves.

Rock Carvings

All 10

Find and mail all 10 carvings to complete "Geology for Beginners."

Treasure Hunter Chain

1

Complete any ONE full treasure hunting chain.

Dreamcatchers

All 20

Find all 20 Dreamcatchers.

🤠 III. Compendium Progress

You are not required to fill the entire Compendium, only specific categories to a certain threshold.

Obtain 10 different pieces of equipment.

Fish

Catch 10 different species of fish.

Gangs

Discover all 6 enemy gangs (unlocked through the story).

Horses

Discover 10 different breeds of horses.

Collect 20 different types of plants.

Weapons

Use at least 48 different types of weapons.

💪 IV. Player and Horse

These are milestones based on leveling up your character's stats.

The final category covers a variety of simple tasks and world interactions.

Interact with 5 special, non-Stranger characters (e.g., the Blind Man, War Vet).

Activities

Take 1 bath, watch 1 show, and visit 1 theater.

Recipes

Craft one item from 6 different categories (Cooking, Tonic, Ammunition, Hunting, Horse Care, Weapon).

Robberies

Complete one of each type of robbery: Coach, Home, Shop, and Train.
