Rockstar Games has finally broken its silence on the next major look at Grand Theft Auto VI, confirming both a date and a genuinely unexpected venue for the reveal. Rather than dropping the footage straight to its own channels, Rockstar is handing the exclusive premiere to Netflix — a first for the studio, and a sign of just how far its marketing partnerships have expanded ahead of the game's launch.
An Extended Look, Streaming First
According to a newswire post on Rockstar's official site, the video — titled "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" — will debut on Netflix at 3pm ET / 8pm BST on Thursday, August 27th. Netflix has already stood up a dedicated landing page for the premiere, complete with a reminder feature so subscribers don't miss the drop. The listing simply teases an extended look at "the next evolution" of the franchise.
It's a striking move. Trailers for a Rockstar release have always lived on YouTube and Rockstar's own site as a matter of course; routing the first watch through a subscription streaming service is new territory, and it says something about the scale of the cross-promotional deals now being built around GTA 6.
Not a Netflix Subscriber? You'll Wait Six Hours
Fans without Netflix accounts aren't shut out entirely, but they will be waiting. Rockstar confirmed the footage will land on its YouTube channel and website later the same day, at 9pm ET — a full six hours after the Netflix debut. That gap has already drawn criticism online, with a number of fans annoyed that access to the footage now effectively hinges on a streaming subscription, even if only temporarily.
A Teaser to Tide Fans Over
Alongside the announcement, Rockstar released a short teaser clip giving another glimpse of protagonists Jason and Lucia, paired with new artwork. It's a brief appetizer rather than substantial new footage, but it's the clearest visual confirmation yet that the full extended look is close.
With a firm date now locked in, the countdown to August 27th is officially on — whether fans choose to watch it via Netflix first or hold out for Rockstar's own upload six hours later.
