Real-world GTA 6 marketing has cleared a major hurdle in South Florida. The Miami Beach City Commission has voted 4-3 to let Rockstar Games place large-scale advertisements around the city ahead of the game's November 19 launch, reversing the tone set earlier by Miami-Dade officials who had objected to promoting a game they said "glorifies" violence against police.
The scale of what's being approved is notable. Signage could run larger than 5,000 square feet, with a price tag of roughly $208,000 per placement — a level of signage privilege Miami Beach has historically reserved for events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix and next year's FIFA World Cup. Rather than splashing "Grand Theft Auto VI" branding across landmarks, the ads are expected to lean on more understated "VI" and "Vice City" typography worked into things like beach umbrellas, and won't be permitted on certain buildings.

Geographically, the approved advertising zone is tightly bound: Downtown Miami between Northeast 5th Street to the north, the Miami River to the south, Biscayne Bay to the east, and Northeast 2nd Avenue to the west. Assuming the final agreement holds, signage could start going up October 15th and must come down by December 31st — a window that neatly bookends the game's release.
Financially, one official at the commission meeting suggested Rockstar's total spend could land somewhere near $4 million, though the specifics are still being hammered out between the city and the publisher. Not everyone on the commission was on board — one member pushed back, arguing the game shouldn't be marketed in the city at all given its subject matter around violence toward police.
The city's own reasoning for approving the deal centered on Vice City's cultural ties to Miami and the marketing windfall a global launch like this could bring — framing it as a chance to spotlight the city as a hub for entertainment, tourism, and media during the promotional run-up to release.
Notably, this Miami Beach vote isn't the final word — Downtown Miami is expected to hold its own vote on similar signage soon, meaning the full picture of how visible GTA 6 becomes on Florida streets this fall is still taking shape.
