Rockstar Games announced today, November 6, that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed again. The game will now launch on November 19, 2026.
This is a significant push from its previous release date of May 26, 2026, adding another six-month wait for the most anticipated game in history.
The news was confirmed by Rockstar in an official statement on their Newswire and social media, and by their parent company, Take-Two Interactive, during its Q2 earnings call.
Rockstar's Official Statement
In a post to the community, Rockstar Games explained the delay was purely for quality control.
"Hi everyone," the statement begins, "Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026."
"We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve. We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City."
A Timeline of Delays
This is now the second major delay for GTA 6. The original release window, announced in the first trailer, was a vague "Fall 2025."
Original Window: Fall 2025
First Delay: May 26, 2026
Second Delay (Current): November 19, 2026
The news had an immediate and predictable effect on the market, with Take-Two Interactive's stock price (TTWO) dropping sharply in after-hours trading.
What Does This Mean?
While another six-month delay is a tough pill to swallow for fans, the message from Rockstar is clear: they will not rush this game. The mantra of "seeking perfection" was echoed by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who, despite the delay, noted that the new date is still within the same fiscal year.
This also marks the third major Rockstar title in a row to be delayed from its initial window, following a similar pattern with both Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both of those games went on to be two of the most successful and critically acclaimed titles of all time.
For now, the wait continues. GTA 6 is still coming, but we'll have to hold on until the holiday season of 2026.
